Average Load Times: Speed Statistics
The Average Load Time, or Speed statistic, is a measurement of the time it takes for pages on a site to load. It's based on the load times experienced by Alexa users, measured by the Alexa Toolbar during their regular web browsing.
Page load times can be affected by many factors. These include the size and complexity of the pages, the responsiveness and location of the site's servers, and the internet connection speeds of the site's typical users. In general, some types of sites will load more quickly than others. For example, sites that are mostly text-based will load more quickly, while sites with many images and other non-text content will take longer to load. This means that it's unavoidable that shopping, image-sharing, and social networking sites will be seen as slow compared to text-only sites.
The Average Load Time for a site is expressed as a percentile that's relative to all the other sites for which we have the data. Alexa takes the median of all the load times we observe for a site and then compare that to the same figure for all other sites. For example, a site in the 98th percentile (Very Fast) has a median load time faster than 98% of all measured sites, while a site in the 2nd percentile (Very Slow) loads more quickly than only 2% of all sites and is slower than 97% of all sites.
This statistic is recalculated and refreshed monthly based on current data. It is an automated process and cannot be updated individually or by hand.
Bounce Rate
Bounce Rate is the percentage of visits that consist of a single page turn. That is, only one page of the site is visited and no intra-site links are clicked before the visitor clicks on the browser's Back button or enters a new URL in the browser's address bar.
Confidence: What do you mean by Confidence on the Audience tab?
Confidence is a measure of how sure we are of our data and our analysis. In general, all of Alexa's data analysis works along the same way: the more data we have, the more accurate we are. Likewise, the more accurate we are, the more confident we are about it.
When we have a lot of data, the Confidence will be higher than when we have very little data.
Content for Toolbar users only
On the Site Analytics tab of the Site Info pages, we now offer Toolbar users additional information on Search Engine Marketing (SEM):
Search Engine Marketing (SEM) Activity -- these are queries that people have performed on major search engines that resulted in ads for the site in question to be displayed.
Search Engine Marketing (SEM) Opportunities -- these are popular queries that are relevant to the site, and that have low competition in SEM. This is not a definitive list, but it can help advertisers to better-position their ad efforts.
Only Toolbar users can view this content, and users with older versions of the Toolbar may need to upgrade to the latest version of the Toolbar.
"Historical data not available for sites ranked >100,000"
Traffic Rankings of 100,000+ should be regarded as not reliable because the amount of data we receive is not statistically significant. Conversely, the more traffic a site receives (the closer it gets to the #1 position), the more reliable its Traffic Ranking becomes.
Search Analytics: What are Top Queries from Search Traffic?
The list is updated monthly.
Search Analytics
Search Traffic - this is the percentage of site visits that come from search engines.
Top Queries from Search Traffic - these are the top search queries that are driving traffic to the site, the keywords that people use to direct their searches.
High Impact Search Queries - these are the popular queries that are relevant to the site and actively targeted by the competition when they advertise on search engines. You can click on the queries and see who the top advertisers are, and what sites are receiving the most traffic for the queries.
Additionally, we offer extra free content to our Alexa Toolbar users:
Search Engine Marketing (SEM) Activity - ads for the site have appeared on major search engines when these queries have been used to run a search.
Search Engine Marketing (SEM) Opportunities - these are queries that can provide the site opportunities to advertise through SEM in order to get more traffic. They are popular, relevant queries that have low competition.
Site Audit
The Site Audit is an assessment that you can run on your site that identifies your sites strengths and weaknesses. This allows you to plan your improvements more strategically, and target the areas that need most development.
